The 2014 Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be a very different team than the 4-12 club of 2013. New coaches, a new quarterback, new stars and, to top it all off, new uniforms combine to make the new Buccaneers. Lovie Smith has replaced Greg Schiano at head coach, 2013 starting quarterback Mike Glennon will be open the season as Josh McCowns backup, Darrelle Revis is gone at cornerback and Vincent Jackson is no longer the teams lone receiving weapon. The Buccaneers used their offseason to overhaul their roster, implement a new offence under offensive coordinator Jeff Tedford and convert their base defence to Smiths Tampa 2 scheme. The Buccaneers significantly improved their offence in the offseason, bringing in McCown, who posted a 109.0 quarterback rating with 13 touchdowns and one interception with the Bears in 2013. The team also drafted receiver Mike Evans in the first round of Mays draft and selected tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins in the second round. Finally, the Bucs have added benefit of running back Doug Marin, who is fully recovered from a season-ending shoulder injury suffered in Week 7 of last season. The reason for the overhaul? The Buccaneers offence posted less yards in 2013 than any other unit in the league. Only Vincent Jackson had more than 600 receiving yards, and his 78 catches were 24 more than next best tight end Timothy Wright, who was traded to the Patriots in the offseason. The Buccaneers hope the added weapons and offensive changes will lead to more balance across the receiving core. On defence, the Buccaneers ranked 20th in yards allowed and 16th in points. Smith brings with him the same defensive system he used in nine seasons with the Bears, who ranked in the top-10 in takeaways in seven of Smiths nine seasons. The Buccaneers secondary lost a superstar when the team released Revis, however the signing the Alterraun Verner will help minimize the loss. Opposite of Verner will be either second-year corner Johnthan Banks or veteran Mike Jenkins. At safety, the Buccaneers boast a solid duo in former first-round pick Mark Barron and 2012 All-Pro Dashon Goldson. However, the strength of the Buccaneers defence will likely be the teams front seven. On the defensive line, former first-round picks Gerald McCoy and Adrian Clayborn will join free agent signees Michael Johnson and Clinton McDonald to create an intimidating front. At linebacker, Lavonte David totaled 145 tackles last season and will line up once again beside Mason Foster, with Jonathan Casillas playing strongside linebacker. The Buccaneers may struggle to adjust with the amount of changes made throughout off-season, however, the team will surely be different than last year - and just not because of their helmets. Notes: Questions on the Line: The Buccaneers signed centre Evan Dietrich-Smith in free agency and traded for left guard Logan Mankins during training camp, however their offensive line remains questionable. Left tackle Anthony Collins was an injury replacement for the Cincinnati Bengals last season, while right tackle Demar Dotson is the lone holdover from last seasons line. At right guard, the team is currently slated to start Patrick Omameh, who has never dressed for an NFL game. He was signed by the Buccaneers off the San Francisco 49ers practice squad last season. Not Wide in Depth: Should the Buccaneers lose either Jackson or Evans to injury, the team will struggle to find a viable replacement at wide receiver. Behind the two starters, Chris Owusu and Louis Murphy hold backup spots. Owusu caught 13 passes for 114 yards in nine games with the Bucs last season, while Murphy has six receptions for 37 yards in 14 games with the New York Giants. The Bucaneers drafted Robert Herron in the sixth round of the 2014 draft, but he remains listed with the third-stringers. Irving Fryar Jersey . 42 sitting next to the bench. Times just about up. The three-day proceeding starts with the first round Thursday and the Bears, owners of the 14th pick, still need help on defence even after some big moves. So a little extra time to study the prospects suited Emery just fine. "I love it, honestly. Ive heard reports of people complaining about it," he said. "I dont know what theyre complaining about." The draft was pushed back about two weeks because of a scheduling conflict at New Yorks Radio City Music Hall. Emery said that allowed the Bears to have "less-rushed conversations" as they try to weigh short-term gains against long-term benefits. The defence ranked among the leagues worst a year ago and was the biggest reason the Bears missed the playoffs for the sixth time in seven years at 8-8. The Bears have been busy addressing that, bringing in Jared Allen and parting with Julius Peppers in an effort to spark a defence that ranked 30th overall, last against the run, and tied Jacksonville with a league-low 31 sacks. They still need help on the line, at linebacker and in the secondary, particularly at safety. Chicago has one pick in each of the first five rounds (Nos. 14, 51, 82, 117 and 156) and two in the sixth round (183 and 191). With that in mind, here are five things to know about the draft. STILL ON THE DEFENSIVE: Emery said he has six candidates for the 14th pick assuming the Bears keep it, and theres a good chance hell go with a defensive player even though he wasnt ruling out offence. Pittsburgh defensive tackle Aaron Donald, Alabama free safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Oklahoma State cornerback Justin Gilbert could be strong possibilities for Chicago. ROLL THE DICE: Emery showed in his first two drafts hes not afraid to take a chance on a first-round pick. He gambled on Shea McClelllin in 2012 and did it again with Kyle Long last year.dddddddddddd The results? Hes batting .500 so far. Long was a hit at right guard even though he made just five starts in his lone season at Oregon. McClellin is a swing and miss so far and is moving from defensive end to linebacker. At least Emery hit it big in the second round in 2012 with receiver Alshon Jeffery, who broke out last season with 1,421 yards receiving. PASS ON QB?: Emery insisted hes comfortable with Jordan Palmer backing up Jay Cutler and that hes not in favour of grooming a quarterback drafted in the later rounds as a potential starter down the line. "That developmental theory doesnt hold a whole lot of water," he said. Starting with the 2006 class, Emery examined how quarterbacks drafted after the third round fared. He didnt find a long-term starter, let alone another Tom Brady. Mostly, it was a collection of third-stringers, many of whom did not last long in the league. "Most of the starters in this league come from the first and second round. So thats where you need to take a quarterback," he said. The idea of pairing a late-round QB with coach Marc Trestman doesnt seem to interest him. "Im more intrigued with how Marc matches up with Jay and Jordan and Jerrod (Johnson)," he said. PLAYING IT SAFE-TY: Emery declared the starting safety spots "wide open" with the struggling Chris Conte back and Major Wright gone. Theyve brought in Ryan Mundy and M.D. Jennings and figure to add more help in the draft. The Bears have also scouted college cornerbacks with length with the idea of converting them to safeties, although that carries some risk. MAKING A MOVE: Emery said hes fielded calls from teams looking to move up to No. 14. He also indicated trading up is unlikely, saying such moves are "expensive." ___ Online: AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and http://twitter.com/AP_NFLBlackhawks Jerseys StoreCheap Wild JerseysCheap Red Wings JerseysCheap Maple Leafs JerseysPenguins Jerseys StoreCapitals Jerseys For SaleBlues Jerseys StoreCheap Kings JerseysAdidas Lightning JerseysStars Jerseys For SaleCheap Predators JerseysDucks StoreSharks Jerseys For SaleCheap Sabres JerseysRangers Jerseys For Sale ' ' '
