Corvallis, OR (SportsNetwork.com) - The seventh-ranked Arizona Wildcats close out a two-game set in the Pacific Northwest on Sunday evening, as they take on the Oregon State Beavers in Pac-12 action at the Gill Coliseum. Sean Millers Wildcats opened the 2014-15 campaign with 12 straight victories before closing out non-conference play with a 71-67 setback at UNLV. The team has gotten back to its winning ways in Pac-12 play however, routing both Arizona State (73-49) and most recently, Oregon (80-62). Wayne Tinkles Beavers are a solid 10-4 on the year. The team has won two of its last three games and has opened up league play at 1-1. Oregon State dropped a 71-59 decision to rival Oregon to get the Pac-12 slate underway, but did knock off Arizona State on Thursday, 55-47. This marks the 79th all-time meeting in this series. The Wildcats hold a 58-20 series advantage, including a 22-14 edge in Corvallis. Arizona has won the last seven meetings with Oregon State. The Wildcats have shown very few weaknesses this season, as their +16.7 scoring margin would suggest. Arizona is shooting an even 50 percent from the floor overall, leading to 76.3 ppg, while also showing a great affinity for defensive play. Opponents are netting just 59.7 ppg and being held to a .388 effort from the floor. The team also lives comfortably in terms of rebounding (+7.3) and turnover (+2.7) margins. Freshman Stanley Johnson has made an immediate impact in Tucson and tops the team in both scoring (14.4 ppg) and rebounding (6.9 rpg). Brandon Ashley (11.7 ppg, 5.3 rpg) and Rondae Hollis- Jefferson (11.5 ppg, 6.6 rpg) provide more than enough frontcourt depth. Gabe York (9.2 ppg) and T.J. McConnell (8.5 ppg, 5.9 apg) are the leaders in the backcourt. Arizona earned its first-ever win at Matthew Knight Arena by shooting an efficient .482 from the floor and dominating play on the glass, outrebounding the Ducks, 40-27. A quiet contributor in terms of scoring this season, McConnell erupted for a season-high 21 points in the win. The other four starters also notched double figures in the balanced attack for Arizona, as Johnson finished with 14 points, followed by Hollis-Jefferson (13 pts), center Kaleb Tarczewski (11 pts) and Ashley (10 pts). The 7-foot Tarczewski completed a double-double with 10 boards. It wasnt the prettiest of games on Thursday at Gill Coliseum, as both Oregon State and Arizona State struggled offensively. The Beavers shot just 39 percent from the floor against ASUs 39.5 percent. The game was decided at the free-throw line, where the Beavers outscored the Sun Devils, 20-9. Malcolm Duvivier led all scorers with 15 points, fueled by a 10-of-11 effort from the charity stripe. Gary Payton II added 12 points to the cause, while Victor Robbins came off the bench to tally 10. Defense is the name of the game in Corvallis this season, as the Beavers are limiting foes to just 56.9 ppg. Opponents are shooting under 40 percent from the floor (.367), which includes a mere .287 from behind the arc. Offensively, OSU is netting a modest 66.5 ppg, but there is some depth, with four players currently averaging double figures. Payton represents the top threat on the roster with 12.4 ppg. The 6-3 guard is also tops on the team in rebounding (8.1 rpg) and steals (41). Robbins hasnt started a single game, but is tied with Langston Morris-Walker with 10.5 ppg apiece. Olaf Schaftenaar rounds out the quartet with 10.3 ppg. Marvin Plattenhardt Germany Jersey . A team with a couple of top tier forwards, the Anaheim Ducks generally provide depth and upside value for fantasy owners. Top Picks: Its not surprise that C Ryan Getzlaf and RW Corey Perry are the two prime picks for the Ducks. They are the franchise cornerstones, links to their Stanley Cup win and anchors on the teams top line. Perry holds more relative value, generally, because the depth of talent at right wing isnt the same as centre. In leagues that count penalty minutes, Perry remains a viable first-round pick. Even if his MVP season is somewhat of an anomaly, over the last six seasons, Perry is the only player in the league with at least 180 goals, 360 points and 400 penalty minutes. Getzlaf has been a point-per-game centre for five of the last six seasons, but his 2011-2012 season was a dud and he missed 31 games in the two years before, so he doesnt come without flaws. Nevertheless, hes a good bet as a low-end No. 1, top tier No. 2 centre. Value Plays: When it comes to the rest of the Ducks, enthusiasm needs to be tempered. We all love RW Teemu Selanne. Hes had a wonderful career and is by all accounts a wonderful guy, but he also had six goals and one assist (!) in his last 33 regular season games last season, so hes a long way from his most productive days and with a decreasing role, the 43-year-old is worth consideration in deep leagues. D Francois Beauchemin had a career year and finished the season playing on a torn ACL, but keep it in perspective: hes 33-years-old and last seasons plus-19 was the first time since 2006-2007 that he finished with a plus rating. Hes also going to be missing his defence partner, Sheldon Souray, for the first couple months of the season after Souray suffered an injury while training this summer. Goaltenders Viktor Fasth and Jonas Hiller are coming off strong seasons, but they cut into each others value because as long as both remain healthy, its hard to imagine a dramatic split in thhe workload.dddddddddddd Forced to choose, give a slight edge to Fasth, who was better last season, even though hes 31 and has 25 games of NHL experience. Sleepers/Breakthrough: Looking for upside plays, check out the left wingers. Jakob Silfverberg is a right winger, but should have an opportunity to play the left side with Getzlaf and Perry, a plum position that can make just about anyone more appealing. Silfverberg had a decent rookie season, but his pedigree and ability to generate shots on goal in his first NHL campaign suggest that there should be more production coming. Dustin Penner Kyle Palmieri has 15 goals and 29 points in 70 career NHL games, and has 46 goals and 83 points in 84 AHL games over the last couple seasons, so he knows what to do with the puck in the offensive zone. It has to be a deep league to consider taking a winger that had two goals in 33 games last season, but Dustin Penner is a five-time 20-goal scorer. If the 30-year-old ends up on a scoring line, he could warrant consideration. Rookies: There arent a lot of openings for Ducks rookies, but Sourays injury may make it easier for undersized Finnish D Sami Vatanen to earn a regular turn on the blueline. Vatanen was stellar in Finland and made a smooth transition to North America, putting up 45 points in 62 AHL games. With regular playing time, including time on the power play, he could put up some decent numbers. The 15th pick in 2009, Peter Holland has six points in 25 career games, but 105 points in 119 AHL games does suggest that he might be able to fill a scoring role in the NHL. With Saku Koivu and Nick Bonino behind Getzlaf on the depth chart, Holland could still have a shot at the second-line centre job or he could be left battling for a spot in the lineup.
